    • Why we like this plant

Sanguisorba ‘Tanna’ adds vertical interest and texture without overwhelming nearby plants. Its soft, swaying flowers are a magnet for pollinators and lend a naturalistic charm to a wide range of garden styles, from formal to wild.

    • About this plant

Sanguisorba ‘Tanna’ is a refined and ornamental perennial valued for its slim, upright flower spikes in rich burgundy shades that resemble tiny bottlebrushes. These appear in midsummer and last well into early autumn, rising delicately above mounds of finely divided green leaves. More compact than many other sanguisorbas, ‘Tanna’ is ideal for smaller gardens, where its understated charm and graceful movement add elegance to mixed borders, prairie-style planting, and meadow schemes. It also blends beautifully with grasses and late-flowering perennials.

    Planting guide

Plant in groups or drifts for best effect in a sunny or lightly shaded spot with moist, fertile soil. Allow space for air circulation and combine with ornamental grasses or other mid-border perennials.

    Care tips

Cut back stems after flowering to tidy the plant or leave seed heads in place for autumn and winter interest. Divide every few years to maintain vigour and replant in enriched soil. No staking is usually required due to its upright habit.

    Winter care

Hardy in the UK and generally needs little protection. In colder areas, a mulch layer can help insulate roots and retain soil structure. Leave some seed heads standing for seasonal interest and wildlife.
