About this plant
Stachys byzantina 'Silver Carpet', commonly known as Lamb's Ear, is a hardy, evergreen perennial grown primarily for its dense, velvety foliage rather than its flowers. The silver-grey leaves are thick, woolly, and irresistibly soft to the touch – ideal for sensory gardens and children’s planting areas. Unlike other varieties, 'Silver Carpet' produces very few flowers, allowing its neat, ground-hugging foliage to remain uninterrupted. It is excellent for edging borders, softening paths, and thriving in dry, sunny spots where other plants may struggle.

Planting guide
Plant in full sun in free-draining soil. Space 30–40cm apart to allow for spreading. Avoid overly rich soils which may encourage floppy growth.
Care tips
Remove any flower spikes that may appear to maintain the plant's tidy appearance. Trim back dead or untidy foliage in early spring. Avoid overwatering, particularly in humid conditions, to prevent rot.
Winter care
'Silver Carpet' is very hardy and evergreen in milder regions. In colder areas, some leaf dieback may occur – simply tidy up in spring. Ensure excellent drainage in winter to avoid root rot.
