About this plant
Teucrium × lucidrys, commonly known as Hedge Germander, is a dwarf, woody perennial that has long been valued in herb gardens and formal planting schemes. It features small, dark green, glossy leaves with a pleasant aroma, forming a tidy, dense habit that responds beautifully to clipping. In summer, it bears spikes of rosy-pink to purplish flowers that attract bees and other pollinators. Its neat appearance and tolerance for shaping make it a fantastic alternative to box (Buxus) for low hedging, especially in dry or Mediterranean-style gardens.

Planting guide
Plant in full sun and free-draining soil, spacing about 20–30cm apart if used for hedging. Ideal for raised beds, parterre borders, or edging pathways.
Care tips
Trim lightly after flowering to maintain shape, and prune harder in spring to encourage fresh growth. Avoid waterlogged soil, and feed lightly in spring if needed. Its compact form needs little maintenance once established.
Winter care
Hardy in most parts of the UK, though may need protection from excessive winter wet. Mulch around the base in late autumn to protect the roots in colder regions.
