Planting guide

Plant deeply (5–8cm below soil level) in fertile, well-drained soil. Provide a trellis or nearby shrub for support. Keep the base cool with mulch or low ground cover plants.

Care tips

Cut back hard in late winter (Group 3). Feed with a balanced fertiliser in spring. Mulch annually to conserve moisture and keep the roots cool. Water in prolonged dry spells.

Winter care

Fully hardy. Prune hard in late winter or early spring (Group 3), cutting stems down to 20–30cm above ground to encourage strong, fresh flowering growth.
