Planting guide

Plant crowns in early spring in trenches 30cm wide and 20cm deep. Space plants about 30–40cm apart. Backfill gradually as they grow, and don’t harvest until the second year to allow plants to establish fully.

Care tips

Weed regularly, mulch in spring, and feed with a general-purpose fertiliser before the growing season. Allow foliage to die back naturally in autumn to strengthen crowns.

Winter care

Cut back any ferny growth after it has died down in late autumn and mulch crowns with compost or well-rotted manure to protect and feed the plant.
