Planting guide

Plant crowns in early spring in trenches 20cm deep and 30cm wide. Space plants around 30–40cm apart. Gradually backfill as spears emerge, and avoid harvesting in the first year to allow strong root establishment.

Care tips

Mulch annually in spring, weed regularly, and water during dry spells in the first two years. Feed with a balanced fertiliser before growth starts each spring.

Winter care

Cut back the spent ferny foliage after it dies down in late autumn. Apply a generous mulch over crowns to insulate and enrich the soil for spring growth.
