  • Why we like this plant

Perfect for containers, smaller borders, and garden designs where vertical accents are needed without overpowering nearby plants. Offers long-lasting colour, movement, and wildlife value in a neat package.

  • About this plant

Verbena bonariensis 'Lollipop' is a dwarf cultivar of the popular Tall Verbena, specially bred to deliver all the charm and pollinator appeal of its taller cousin in a more compact form. It produces the familiar clusters of small, purple flowers on branched, wiry stems, but only reaches around half the height of the species. This makes it particularly well-suited to smaller gardens, balcony containers, and the front of borders. Its long flowering period and bee-friendly blooms make it a valuable addition to wildlife gardens.

Planting guide

Plant in full sun in well-drained soil. Space 25–35cm apart to allow airflow. Ideal for gravel gardens, cottage borders, and patio pots.

Care tips

Deadhead spent blooms to encourage a longer flowering season and reduce self-seeding. Cut back to ground level in late autumn or early spring. Feed with a balanced fertiliser in spring for best results.

Winter care

While considered half-hardy in colder regions, Verbena bonariensis often survives mild UK winters, especially with a layer of mulch to protect the crown. In frost-prone areas, treat as an annual or collect seed for sowing the following year.
