About this plant
'Hinnonmaki Red' is a reliable, disease-resistant gooseberry variety bred in Finland, ideal for cooler climates. Planting guide
Plant during the dormant season (autumn to early spring). Space plants about 1.2m apart in well-drained soil. Add plenty of organic matter and water well after planting. Mulch annually to retain moisture and suppress weeds.
Care tips
Feed annually in early spring with a balanced fertiliser. Prune out old and weak stems to maintain airflow and productivity. Protect ripening fruit from birds with netting if needed.
Winter care
Prune in winter when the plant is dormant to maintain shape and encourage air circulation. Mulch with well-rotted compost or manure to protect the roots and suppress weeds.
