  • About this plant

Clematis montana 'Marjorie' is a stunning deciduous climber that offers something a little different from the classic montana group. Its semi-double flowers are a soft pinkish-cream with a greenish-bronze tint, giving them a vintage, almost watercolour-like quality. Flowering in late spring, it covers trellises, arches, or pergolas in a mass of subtle colour and soft fragrance. New foliage emerges with a bronze flush, adding further appeal before maturing to green. It's vigorous, hardy and ideal for gardeners who want something elegant, yet reliable.

Planting guide

Plant with the crown just below soil level, in well-drained soil. Provide a structure to climb on, and mulch around the base to keep roots cool. Shade the roots but let the plant reach into the sun.

Care tips

Water during dry spells in the first year, feed with a general fertiliser in spring, and lightly prune after flowering if needed. Mulch annually to retain moisture and improve soil.

Winter care

Requires little winter attention. Simply prune lightly after flowering to control its size or remove dead growth.
