Planting guide

Plant in spring into fertile, well-drained soil enriched with compost. Space plants around 30 cm apart to allow good airflow. Water well initially, then allow soil to dry slightly between watering.

Care tips

Ensure soil remains well drained and does not become waterlogged, especially in winter. Deadhead spent flower spikes to encourage new blooms and cut back the plant after flowering finishes for a tidy garden display.

Winter care

Fully hardy in the UK, but cut back to ground level in late autumn. Apply a mulch in spring to support new growth, especially in colder soils.
