Planting guide

Plant in spring in fertile, well-drained soil in a sunny, sheltered position. Agapanthus flower best when slightly root-bound, making them ideal for containers. If planting in the ground, ensure sharp drainage, particularly in heavier soils.

Care tips

Feed with a high potash fertiliser in spring and early summer to encourage flowering. Avoid overwatering in winter. Divide congested clumps in spring only when necessary, as plants flower best when undisturbed.

Winter care

In milder parts of the UK, protect plants in the ground with a thick mulch around the crown. In colder regions, grow in containers and move to a sheltered, frost-free position over winter. Reduce watering during winter dormancy and ensure excellent drainage.
