Why we like this plant
Tulip 'Red Riding Hood' is a perennial favourite for its cheerful red flowers and beautifully patterned foliage, which adds interest long before the first bud opens. The blooms themselves are classic in shape, opening wide in sunlight to reveal a dramatic black heart. Belonging to the Greigii group, this tulip thrives in sunny, well-drained spots and makes an excellent choice for low-maintenance spring colour. Its modest height and tidy form suit rockeries, pathways, and containers, where its bright presence never goes unnoticed.
Planting guide
Plant bulbs in autumn, 12 to 15 cm deep and 8 to 10 cm apart, in full sun and well-drained soil.
Care tips
Allow spent flowers to be removed, but keep foliage in place until it yellows naturally. In suitable conditions, 'Red Riding Hood' often returns reliably year after year.
