Why we like this plant
Tulip 'Carnaval de Nice' is a showpiece of the spring border, beloved for its theatrical colouring and generous blooms. The red brushstrokes on each creamy white petal create a lively, almost hand-painted effect that draws the eye from across the garden. Its sturdy stems hold the large flowers aloft, making it suitable for both garden display and indoor arrangements. A descendant of the much-admired 'Princess Irene' line, this variety has a timeless elegance with a bold flair, perfect for pairing with deep purples, dusky pinks, or silver foliage.
Planting guide
Plant in autumn, 15 cm deep and 10 to 12 cm apart, in rich, well-drained soil in full sun.
Care tips
Deadhead spent blooms and allow the foliage to die back completely before removing. In light soils and sunny positions, 'Carnaval de Nice' may perennialise well. Lift bulbs in early summer if drainage is poor, storing them in a dry, airy place.
