    • Why we like this plant

Perfect for creating seasonal drama, Viburnum opulus 'Roseum' offers a long season of interest with its changing flower and foliage display. It suits traditional gardens, large borders, and can be used as a striking informal hedge.

    • About this plant

Viburnum opulus 'Roseum', also known as the Snowball Tree, is a classic deciduous shrub famed for its eye-catching, pom-pom-like white blooms that appear in late spring. These large flowerheads start green and mature to a pristine white, creating a stunning display against the plant’s lobed, maple-like green leaves. While this sterile cultivar does not produce berries like its wild counterpart, it compensates with vibrant red and orange autumn colour. Its elegant form and reliable performance make it a favourite for traditional borders, hedging, and as a statement shrub.

    Planting guide

Plant in fertile, moist but well-drained soil in full sun to partial shade. Space at least 1.5–2m apart if planting as a hedge or backdrop in borders.

    Care tips

Prune after flowering to maintain shape and remove any damaged or wayward stems. It requires little feeding but benefits from an annual mulch with compost or well-rotted manure.

    Winter care

Very hardy and low-maintenance in winter. A mulch layer in late autumn will help retain moisture and suppress weeds around the roots.
