About this plant

Tropical colour on a patio scale

  • Description

Cannasol 'Happy Cleo' is a compact patio canna producing bold orange flowers with yellow throats and subtle darker speckling from early summer to early autumn. The blooms are held above lush mid-green tropical foliage on a neat, clump-forming plant bred specifically for pots and small spaces. It brings a genuinely exotic look to patios and sheltered borders without the height of traditional cannas.

  • Why we like it

'Happy Cleo' gives you all the drama of a canna in a size that suits pots, small borders and balconies. The orange flowers just keep coming through summer, and the bold foliage looks good even between flushes. It is one of the easiest ways to give a sunny corner a tropical feel.

Planting & care

Help it thrive

Planting guide

Plant out in late spring once all risk of frost has passed, in fertile soil or peat-free multipurpose compost in a warm, sheltered spot in full sun. Work in plenty of organic matter and water in well. In containers, choose a pot at least 30cm wide with good drainage.

Care tips

Water freely in dry weather and feed monthly with a high potash liquid feed to keep the flowers coming. Remove faded flowers individually to encourage more buds. Let the foliage die back naturally in autumn before lifting or mulching.
