Planting & care

Help it thrive

Planting guide

Plant in a large container with free-draining compost, ideally mixed with grit or sand. Place in a sunny, sheltered spot. Water regularly during the growing season, but allow the soil surface to dry between waterings. Feed with a balanced fertiliser in spring and summer.

Care tips

Water consistently during dry spells, especially in summer. Feed with a liquid fertiliser every few weeks from spring to mid-summer. Prune lightly to maintain its neat shape. Protect from severe frost.

Winter care

Provide protection from severe frost by wrapping the crown in horticultural fleece and moving potted trees to a sheltered position if temperatures drop below -5°C. Avoid waterlogging in winter.
