Ruby-red blooms that mellow to pink and gold

Description
Achillea millefolium 'Paprika' is a spreading, mat-forming yarrow grown for its flat, plate-like heads of warm orange-red flowers, each with a small pale centre. The blooms appear through summer and shift in tone as they age, fading to soft pink and creamy yellow, so a single plant carries several shades at once. They sit above ferny, aromatic grey-green foliage and are a magnet for bees and other pollinators.

Planting guide
Plant in spring or autumn into well-drained soil in full sun. Achillea dislike wet ground, especially over winter, so improve heavy soil with grit or sharp sand before planting. Water well while establishing, then only in prolonged dry spells. Space plants around 45 to 50cm apart for good air circulation.
Care tips
Water during dry spells in the first growing season, after which the plant is drought-tolerant. Deadhead spent flowers to prolong flowering and encourage a second flush. Lift and divide clumps every two to three years in spring or autumn to keep growth healthy and vigorous.
