Planting guide
Plant in spring or autumn in well-drained soil in a sunny position. Water regularly during establishment and deadhead spent flowers to encourage repeat flowering through summer.
Care tips
Trim back faded flower spikes after flowering to encourage fresh blooms. Avoid overly rich soil, which can lead to softer growth. Divide mature clumps every few years to maintain vigour.
Winter care
Leave faded stems in place through winter for light protection, then cut back in early spring as new growth appears. Avoid wet winter soil conditions around the crown.
