Why we like this plant
Crocus 'Sativus' has been cherished for centuries, both for its ornamental charm and the culinary treasure hidden within. Each flower bears three deep crimson stigmas, which can be carefully gathered and dried to produce saffron. The flowers themselves are quietly beautiful, with soft lilac tones that glow in the low autumn sun. Planted in groups, they bring a sense of tradition and quiet luxury to the garden.
Planting guide
Plant corms in late summer, 10 to 15 cm deep and 10 cm apart, in well-drained soil with full sun.
Care tips
Allow leaves to remain until they fade in spring, as this helps replenish the corm. In damp soils, improve drainage or lift and store bulbs over winter to prevent rot.
