  • Why we like this plant

Tulip 'Little Princess' is a fiery little wonder that lights up the garden in early spring. Its star-shaped flowers open wide in sunlight, revealing a dramatic black centre ringed with golden orange. A member of the tulipa hageri group, it is well suited to dry, sunny spots and has a pleasingly natural look, ideal for alpine beds or gravel planting. Its small stature belies its strong visual impact, and it often returns reliably year after year in the right conditions.

Planting guide

Plant bulbs in autumn, 8 to 10 cm deep and 6 to 8 cm apart, in very well-drained soil with full sun.

Care tips

Let the foliage die back naturally after flowering. In free-draining conditions, 'Little Princess' may naturalise and multiply gently. Avoid overly damp or shaded sites.
